What the UK Standard Visitor Route Covers
GOV.UK states that Standard Visitors can usually visit the United Kingdom for up to 6 months for tourism, visiting family or friends, certain business activities, short study and other permitted activities.
Applicants must meet the visitor eligibility rules even when they do not need a visa. The official rules require travelers to be able to support themselves during the trip, pay for their return or onward journey, and show that they will leave the UK at the end of the visit.

UK Visitor Visa Application Process
If a Standard Visitor visa is required, the application is completed online before travel and normally includes an appointment at a visa application centre to prove identity, provide biometrics and submit supporting documents.
GOV.UK currently states that the earliest application date is 3 months before travel. As of September 2026, the official Standard Visitor visa fee is listed as £135 for up to 6 months. Fees and processing rules can change, so always verify them on GOV.UK before paying.
The official application page also states that applicants need a passport or travel document valid for the whole stay and documents showing they meet the visitor requirements.
